FAQ's

When should I book my session?


I am typically booked 2 weeks in advance. You should contact me as soon as possible to book your session. It is never too early to reserve your session date. It is best to book newborn sessions 1-2 months prior to your babies arrival.​

Can you come to our house for the session?


Yes! I do offer sessions at clients homes. All sessions are held at a location of your choice. They can be held at your home, favorite park, beach etc. If you are unsure of where you would like it held we can discuss options and what location would work best for you.

Newborn sessions are always held in the clients homes or at an outdoor location (during warmer weather months) if the parent chooses to do so.

Can the parents be included in newborn or children sessions?


Yes. Parents are welcome to be in sessions.
(at no additional charge)

Can siblings be included in a newborn session?


Yes. Immediate family members are welcome to be photographed in a few portraits during newborn sessions. (at no additional charge)

What if my child is not feeling well before the session, should I cancel?


It is best to photograph children being themselves. If your child is not feeling well and just not being themselves, I do recommend rescheduling the session. Please contact me as soon as you know you need to reschedule. Sessions can be rescheduled at no additional charge within 30 days.

Weather? Do we cancel in case of bad weather?


If you're not sure if the weather is fair enough, please feel free to give me a call at 252-646-3994. We can always choose an alternate location or reschedule the session if necessary.

Can someone else come along?


I like to limit the session to parents and those who will be photographed for the session. Some children are easily distracted when being called by many people at once.

What should we wear?

​Newborns: Newborns are always best photographed in a simple wrap or diaper cover. You are welcome to choose a few outfits if you prefer.

Babies & Toddlers: I encourage at least two outfits, preferably a neutral color outfit and another with fun colors and layers always make a great photograph. If your child has a favorite toy or blanket, feel free to bring it to the session.

Families: I usually suggest that you pick your childs outfit, then coordinate colors from that. Try keeping your outfits in the same color scheme but not too "matchy". Pinterest is a great place for outfit ideas.

What location options do we have for our portrait session?


There are many location options along the Crystal Coast. I frequently photograph at the beach and at many area parks. There are many options in our area. The Beaufort Historic Site, Fort Macon State Park, Oceanana Pier, Bogue Inlet Pier and the Crystal Coast beaches are a few popular locations that have beautiful settings.

 

Do you offer Gift Certificates?


Yes, I offer Gift Certificates in the amount of $50 or more.

When do I pay the Session/Creative Fee?


The session/creative fee is due when booking your session date. You can pay online immediately or by check.

 

Can you edit images we had done from another photographer​?

No. I do not edit other photographers work. I highly recommend researching photographers in the area before you book a session. You want to choose a photographer whose photography style fits what you have in mind so you are happy with the final product. If you're offered a full session including all digital images for $50, you're more than likely not getting professional, fully edited images. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. 

 

What does the Session/Creative Fee include?


The session/creative fee covers your custom photography session for up to 1 hour and the custom editing of your images. Each image presented in your gallery is fully edited by myself and usually ready within two weeks after your session. The session/creative fee does NOT include any prints or products. 

What do you charge for prints?

Do you offer digital image files?


Yes. I offer the option to purchase digital images. You can purchase single images or a digital images from your gallery. If you purchase digital downloads, you have full printing rights to the purchased digital images. If you are creating a wall portrait or prints to be displayed in your home, I highly recommend that you purchase prints through your gallery. Printing your photos through Susan Yates Photography guarantees that your are investing in professionally printed photos that are printed on the finest photographic paper and handled by a team of experienced color technicians that provide superb color management so that each and every print looks picture perfect. Printing locally through a store lab does not compare to a professional print.

When will I see my images?


You will receive a link and password to your image gallery within two weeks after your session. Your gallery will be available for ten days so you can make note of your favorites and make a list for your print order.

Once I place my order, when will my prints be ready?


Your prints will be delivered 2 weeks after your order is placed. Additional days may be required for specialty products.

What form of payment do you accept?
Cash, checks, or PayPal are accepted. (There is a $30 fee on all returned checks)
